Skinos is the ancient name for Mastiha. The ancient Greeks knew it as a cure for stomach aches. Hippocrates recommended it as an excellent digestive aid, among many other therapeutic uses. Roman emperors used it to spice their wine,and during the Ottoman empire the harem ladies chewed it to whiten their teeth and freshen their breath. But most hedonistically of all, when it is distilled, it is transformed into one of the worlds truly unique spirits.
